Laser Pigmentation Removal
What is Hyperpigmentation and Sun Damage on the Face?

Sun damage is a common type of hyperpigmentation, manifested as dark patches on the skin known as sun spots. These spots are a result of UV exposure or aging. The most effective treatment for sun spots and sun damage is laser pigmentation removal.

At Mayfair & Grace, we offer laser pigmentation treatments using our advanced Lynton Deka Laser. This laser specifically targets darker pigmentation, breaking it apart and bringing it to the skin's surface. After treatment, the darker pigment will begin to flake off within about 5 days.
This hyperpigmentation treatment effectively addresses sun damage, removes freckles, and reduces dark blemishes and sun spots. Following a series of Pigmentation Reduction Laser treatments, you can expect a brighter, clearer, and more even skin tone.

Our pigmentation laser treatment is suitable for addressing sun damage on the face, décolletage, and hands.

FAQS Laser Pigmentation Removal

What Should I Do Before My Laser Pigmentation Removal Treatment?

- If you use retinol, glycolic acid, or other AHA-containing products, as well as hydroquinone, please discontinue their use at least 3 days prior to your laser treatment.
- Ensure that your face is free from tan: avoid sunbathing or using tanning beds for a minimum of 4 weeks before your appointment.
- On the day of your treatment, make sure your face is free of any self-tanning products; avoid using these for 4 weeks prior to your session.

What Can I Expect During and After Treatment?

During the treatment, some clients may experience discomfort. We recommend taking 2 paracetamol 30 minutes before your appointment to help mitigate this.
You may observe some redness and swelling depending on your skin type and the specific lesions being treated. The pigmented area will initially appear darker and will remain so for about 5 days before fading.

Aftercare Following Pigmentation Laser Treatment:

- Immediately after the treatment, you may experience redness and swelling in the treated area, similar to mild sunburn.
- Applying a cool pack during the first few hours post-treatment can alleviate any discomfort.
- We recommend using sudo cream, which can be applied at home that evening.
- The pigmentation may darken initially before beginning to flake off.
- To minimize the risk of further hyperpigmentation, avoid sun exposure and apply SPF 50 sunscreen diligently.
- Do not pick or scratch the treated skin, as this can exacerbate pigmentation issues.
- For the first 24 hours, avoid hot baths, vigorous exercise, and heat treatments, treating your skin gently, as you would with sunburn.

How Many Pigmentation Laser Treatments Will I Need, and Are Results Permanent?

You will typically require a minimum of 3 treatments. To maintain optimal results long-term, daily SPF application is essential, and a pigment-suppressing cream will be provided.

**Can I Go on a Sun-Soaked Holiday During My Pigmentation Laser Treatment?**
Yes, but you must wear SPF 50 sunscreen on your face and a hat when in the sun. If you experience sunburn or tanning while away, please wait 4 weeks after returning before scheduling your next session.
**Who Should Avoid This Treatment?**
- This treatment is not suitable for individuals with Asian or black skin due to the risk of pigmentation. Those with very dry or sensitive skin may need to use products to strengthen the skin barrier beforehand; your aesthetic skin therapist will advise you during your consultation and test patch.
- Clients who react to the test patch (e.g., burning, blistering, or pigmentation) cannot proceed with the treatment.
- This treatment is contraindicated for anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Individuals who have had a suntan within 14 days of treatment should also refrain from undergoing the procedure.
- Clients on photosensitizing medications, such as lymecycline or doxycycline, should avoid this treatment.
- If you have active acne, we will need to first prescribe skincare to manage your breakouts.
- Please discontinue the use of retinol, glycolic acid, or other AHA-containing products and hydroquinone 3 days before your appointment.
