Thread Vein Removal
At Mayfair & Grace, we specialise in treating thread veins, broken capillaries, facial flushing, using our FDA-approved medical laser, the Lynton Deka. This laser treatment is recognized as one of the best options on the market for addressing rosacea and is highly effective for a variety of facial redness concerns, including thread veins, broken capillaries, facial flushing, and flat cherry angiomas.

What is the treatment journey like?

First, you will schedule a facial laser consultation with our aesthetic therapist, who will assess whether this treatment is suitable for you. During this appointment, they will determine how many sessions you may need (typically 3 sessions, but it could be up to 6 for more severe redness) and conduct a patch test of the laser on your skin. They will also recommend products to support your skin and provide these for you on the day of the consultation.
If you do not have a reaction to the patch test, you can book your first laser session for the following day.

On the day of your first laser session, it’s advisable to take two paracetamol or co-codamol painkillers (if you are not allergic) about 30 minutes before your appointment, as the treatment can be a bit uncomfortable.

The procedure itself is quick and straightforward. Many veins may disappear immediately following the treatment, though you might experience some puffiness and redness for about two days. Most clients are able to return to work the day after the treatment, and some can even go back immediately after the session if only a small area, like the nose, is being treated.

Your second treatment will be scheduled for one month later.

FAQs for Broken Capillaries Laser Treatment

What should I do before my laser treatment for redness or facial thread veins?
Discontinue the use of retinol, glycolic acid, other AHA products, or hydroquinone at least 3 days prior to your laser treatment.
Avoid tanning, including self-tanners, for 4 weeks both before and after the treatment.

What can I expect during and after the laser treatment for rosacea?
During the procedure, some patients may experience discomfort. We recommend taking 2 paracetamol 30 minutes before your appointment.
You may notice some redness and swelling, depending on your skin type and the specific lesion being treated. This typically subsides within 48 hours. Lesions may appear darker around 5 to 7 days post-treatment.

What is the aftercare for laser treatment for redness and thread veins?
- Immediately following the treatment, you may experience redness and swelling in the treated area, similar to mild sunburn.
- Applying a cool pack during the first few hours can help alleviate discomfort.
- We recommend using Sudocrem at home that evening to soothe the area.
- To minimize the risk of hyperpigmentation, avoid sun exposure and use SPF 50 sunscreen diligently.
- Do not pick or scratch at the treated skin, as this may darken any areas of pigmentation.
- For the first 24 hours, avoid hot baths, exercise, and heat treatments, and treat your skin gently, as you would with a sunburn.

The average client typically undergoes 3 initial treatments to reduce overall redness, followed by a single top-up session every 9 months to address any new veins that may develop. If you have a skin type that tends to form new veins, you may need a maintenance treatment every 9 months to keep your results.

How does laser treatment for thread veins and facial redness work?
The laser targets vascular lesions by delivering short pulses of visible light, rapidly increasing the temperature in the concentrated area of hemoglobin. This causes damage to the vessel walls, causing them to break apart. The body then absorbs these vessels, making them less visible.

Can I go on a sunny holiday during my laser treatment for redness?
Yes, but it is crucial to wear a broad-spectrum SPF 50 on your face and a hat while in the sun. If you develop a suntan, you must wait 4 weeks after your return before scheduling your next session.

Who is not suitable for laser treatment for redness?
- This treatment is not suitable for individuals with Asian or Black skin, as it may cause pigmentation issues. Clients with very dry and sensitive skin may require additional barrier products prior to treatment; consult with your therapist on the day of your consultation and patch test.
- If you have a reaction to the patch test (such as burns, blisters, or pigmentation), you will not be eligible for this treatment.
- The treatment is also contraindicated for pregnant or breastfeeding individuals.
- You cannot have this treatment if you have had a suntan on the skin within 4 weeks before the appointment.
- Individuals on photosensitizing medication, such as lymecycline or doxycycline, are also not suitable candidates.
- If you currently have active acne, we will need to provide skincare recommendations to address your breakouts before proceeding with the laser treatment.
- Remember to stop using retinol, glycolic acid, other AHA products, or hydroquinone at least 3 days before the treatment.
